If you visit Canada's Immigration Museum at Pier 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, one of the items you will discover is the Wheel of Conscience designed by Daniel Libeskind.
This wheel is a memorial to the 908 Jews who fled Nazi persecution aboard the MV (Motor Vessel) St. Louis. In 1939, this ship sailed to and was turned away from Cuba, the United States, and Canada. The refugees ended up returning to Europe where 250 of them died during the holocaust.
You can learn much more about the journey, plight, and politics behind the trials of the MV St. Louis at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_St._Louis
